Our department has been utilizing one of your RDCs for a number of years, as we have a portion of the Erie Canal and multiple locks running through the center of our city.
Two weeks ago, we were called to assist an overturned vessel in a very unique location. A flat bottom boat, similar to those used when the canal was first opened, had been used inside a spillway cave to provide a unique perspective of the inner workings of the canal and lock system.
That particular day, the flat bottom boat overturned with over twenty souls aboard. The RDC was instrumental in helping us aid many of these people. Scene confinement and limited access to the people in the water would have made rescue by other means incredibly difficult if it were not for your company's well-thought-out, portable craft.
Within minutes of receiving the call for help, crews were able to carry the RDC into the cave, inflate it waterside, and begin rescue operations. Nearly half of the passengers in the water were brought to shore via the RDC. We could not be more pleased with the performance of the RDC, and the efforts of our firefighters that day.
